Reddit’s AI Strategy Targets Google Searchers, Not Just Scrollers

Reddit’s AI Strategy Targets Google Searchers

Reddit is stepping up its game not just for the community loyalists, but for the curious searchers on Google. In Q1 2025, CEO Steve Huffman unveiled Reddit Answers, an AI-powered feature designed for users who add "Reddit" to their Google searches to find real, unfiltered advice.

Launched in beta back in December 2024, Reddit Answers already sees 1 million weekly active users across the U.S., U.K., Canada, India, and Australia. The chatbot delivers both summarized and verbatim insights from Reddit threads—tailored for “Seekers” who want information fast, not “Scrollers” who dive deep into threads.

The tool is now being integrated into Reddit’s main search bar and new user onboarding. The goal? To help users discover Reddit’s unique content right from the get-go, and to make Google search visitors stick around longer.

This smart move is paying off. Reddit posted $392.4M in Q1 revenue, a 61% YoY surge, and now boasts 108.1M daily active users. With Q2 guidance between $410M and $430M, Reddit is clearly riding the AI wave successfully.
